"Call to Faith” Curriculum Overview
Our curriculum for grades 1 through 5, entitled “Call to Faith,” is produced by Our Sunday Visitor, a well known and respected Catholic education company.

“Call to Faith” is shaped around the following principles:

-To form participants into disciples who act with the mind and heart of Christ.

-Religious formation is gradual, systematic, and lifelong. We are touched and transformed by the living God and by the lived Tradition of the community throughout our lives.

-The whole parish community (including parents, family members, catechists and pastors) is called to hand on the faith through faith sharing and the witness of daily life.

Our “Call to Faith” program partners with parents and guardians to develop households of faith in the following ways:

- Family connections are made throughout the program and at the end of each chapter lesson in a section called, Family Faith. This section provides a family activity to work on at home with your child along with a scripture passage that relates to the chapter lesson, and information about Saints and other people of faith whose life witnesses to the chapter lesson them.

-“Call to Faith” teaches 7 unit themes. They are: Revelation, Trinity, Jesus Christ, The Church, Morality, Sacraments, and The Kingdom of God. Children from all grades are taught these units at the same time throughout the school year. This is helpful for families with multiple children to be able to engage in family faith discussions on a particular unit theme.

-“Call to Faith” is a spiral education curriculum. The program is designed to build upon the 7 key components of our Catholic faith and traditions in age appropriate ways as your child develops from year to year.

-Lastly, “Call to Faith” uses a three-step learning process: 1. Invite 2. Explore and 3. Celebrate. The Invite section teaches simple and engaging reflections that draw out the life experience of the learner. Explore looks at the living Tradition of our Catholic faith as it is expressed in Scripture and doctrine. Through the use of a variety of stories, literary forms and questions, children enter more deeply into the chapter content and are helped to connect faith with their lives. In the third step, Celebrate, children celebrate what they believe through prayer celebrations that model the diverse ways in which Catholics pray.

-Parents are encouraged to visit the publisher’s website for complete home lessons for each chapter, interactive learning games for children, and additional family and community connections at www.osvcuriculum.com.
